The colored version of my fanart to the book Many Waters by Madeline L'Engle.
This is Sandy with a Unicorn and little scraggly mammoth. Sandy lives in the modern world and he and his twin brother Dennys played with one of their father's time experiments. By doing so, they were transported back in time to just before Noah and the Ark, the Bible story, happens. Here he has just been captured by a neighboring family (from where the twins were staying in Noah's father's hut). The family is a horrible one, they even mistreat their mammoth! And mammoths are dying out, hard to come by! The little scraggly thing comes to see Sandy who is nice to him, and the mammoth calls a unicorn for Sandy. Sandy knows that when the time comes the unicorn will go out of being with him and the mammoth and get them away from his kidnappers, but until then, he rests. That is the scene I decided to illustrate, it really struck a cord in me. I am pretty pleased with the illustration over all. I made the background in photoshop and played with the lighting, but overall I think it is more of a traditional work. Colored pencil, brush pen, and a bit of photoshop. Used some reference on Sandy's body position, thanks to ~GrinderBlind and his image here [link] Characters © Madeline L'Engle Art © Julie Love 2009 Like my stuff? Commissions are available! Yeah the background texture I got was really, really small so it pixelated when enlarged. Otherwise I think it's pretty good.
I worked real hard on the lineart -- Commissions + Gift Art + Inspirations Haha, well, I am better at traditional media than CG, if it makes you feel any better. But I worked for a long time only in traditional so I am having to learn CG
